Oil Paintings

My deep observation of nature and its cycles began in 1987, during my second year at the Art Academy in Baghdad. It was a time of awakening, guided by the insight and inspiration of my uncle, Abdulla Alkhateeb, and the artist Mohammed Sabri—and later shaped further under the supervision of the pioneer artist Faiq Hassan. Since then, I still experience that familiar giggle of excitement, as if I’m encountering something—or someone—for the very first time.

I love working with oil colours—whether painting en plein air, immersed in the landscape, in the quiet of the studio, or while freely experimenting with abstraction. I find the greatest joy and challenge in reshaping the landscape: emphasizing certain elements while letting others gently dissolve. Oil paint, with its forgiving and generous nature, remains my ideal companion on this evolving journey.

About the Artist

Abeer El Khabet

I began painting as a child - around 8 or 10 - often in a sweltering little room, pinning my drawings to the walls and quietly reflecting on what I had made. Decades later, I still do the same. Painting continues to be a journey of discovery, where surprises - both planned and accidental - lead me closer to understanding myself.

At 19, I entered the Art Academy, and years later, I pursued my Master’s degree in London at the age of 40. My life across multiple countries has shaped not only my worldview but also my artistic voice. It challenged me to question every thought, every belief, and through that process, I developed Reverseism - a personal philosophy and concept that runs through my work.

Alongside my studio practice, I provide guidance to emerging artists and have developed a master program at my gallery to help new talents explore and pursue their own artistic paths. I believe in nurturing creativity as both a practice and a way of life.

My paintings are not just about what you see - they are invitations to reflect, to feel, and to find something of yourself in the unexpected.
